About LeafLibrary

LeafLibrary is the houseplant reference we wished existed: every plant with the same honest structure, pet-safety flags on every page, and diagnosis guides for the moments something goes wrong.

Most plant care content oscillates between "just water it weekly" folklore and agricultural-science jargon. Real home growing lives between the two: your windows face a specific direction, your radiator dries the air, your cat eats everything. LeafLibrary writes for that reality.

Every profile covers the same ground — light, water, humidity, soil, and pet toxicity — with the common failure modes named. The Care Guides section handles the universal problems: yellow leaves, brown tips, root rot, fungus gnats — what each symptom usually means and the one change most likely to fix it.

We are obsessive plant people and researchers, not botanists. When a plant is beyond blog-level help, our pages point you to extension services and professionals who can see it in person.

What makes LeafLibrary different

  • Your numbers never leave your browser. Every calculator on LeafLibrary runs entirely on your device. We never see, store, or transmit the figures you enter — there are no accounts and no server-side processing of your inputs.
  • Published methodology. Each calculator page explains the exact formula it uses and the assumptions behind it, so you can check our work or reproduce it in a spreadsheet.
  • Free, forever, without a paywall. LeafLibrary is supported by advertising. There is no premium tier, no email gate, and no upsell.

Independence

LeafLibrary is an independent educational project. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any government agency, lender, insurer, or the organizations whose formulas and public data we reference (such as horticultural extension and ASPCA toxicity references). All trademarks and referenced standards belong to their respective owners.
