Complete Care & Troubleshooting Guide
Calathea orbifolia is the showpiece of the prayer-plant family: round, dinner-plate leaves striped in silver brushstrokes that fold upward at night. It's also the honest face of calathea care — gorgeous, pet-safe, and specific about water and humidity.
Care. Medium indirect light (no hot sun — the stripes bleach). The two non-negotiables: humidity above 60% (humidifier or bathroom) and soft water — tap-water minerals cause the infamous crispy edges; filtered or distilled water is the calathea cheat code. Keep soil lightly moist, never swampy. Warmth above 60°F. It moves — leaves fold at night; enjoy the show.
Watch for: crispy edges (dry air or tap water — fix both and it thrives), and curled leaves (thirst). Non-toxic to cats and dogs — the showiest safe plant for pet households willing to run a humidifier.
