The peace lily is the plant that trains new growers: its theatrical droop at thirst â and dramatic recovery within hours of watering â teaches what plant thirst looks like without permanent damage. Bonus: the white spathes bloom repeatedly in decent light.
Care. Water when leaves begin to droop or the top inch dries â roughly weekly. Constant soggy soil brings brown tips and root rot, so aim for "dramatic droop then drink" rather than preemptive pouring. Low to medium light suits it; blooms appear more in brighter indirect spots. Wipe leaves monthly, remove spent flowers at the base, and feed lightly in spring and summer.
Watch for: brown leaf tips (mineral buildup or overwatering â use filtered water if tap is hard), and green flowers (normal aging). Like other aroids it is toxic to pets if chewed â calcium oxalate crystals cause mouth irritation.
