The yucca cane plant (usually Yucca gigantea) is the tall potted tree in every sun-drenched lobby: woody canes, rosettes of stiff sword leaves, and an indifference to dry air that makes it ideal over radiators and in desert-modern rooms.
Care. Give it your brightest spot; it accepts direct sun happily and grows leggy and pale without it. Water deeply but only when a good depth of soil dries — like most architectural plants it dies from wet feet, not thirst. Any humidity, standard warmth, and a fast-draining mix. Repot rarely (trunks like crowding); dust the leaves; feed sparingly.
Watch for: soft yellow base (rot — dry out immediately), and pale floppy leaves (light starvation). Sharp leaf tips can sting — placement away from walkways. Toxic to pets if chewed (saponins cause vomiting) — height is your friend here.
